My Story – Part 2

So, instead of complaining for the rest of my life, I decided to take action. I wanted to find the work I love and then create a business around it. I bought several books on the subject and read them all. I went to seminars and workshops. I hired a coach and received 12 sessions of coaching. I surrounded myself with like-minded people. I went to a personal development coaching course with the hope that it would help me find the work I would love to do. I liked the course so much that I decided to continue my education and receive a coaching diploma.

While I was studying for my coaching qualification, I was also working at my corporate job. I started coaching my clients in the evenings and at the weekends. Although I was a trainee coach, all my clients said how much I helped them during our sessions and this was a great motivation for me.

I got my diploma after 18 months of study. That is when I decided to specialise on a niche. I started reading books on the subject, spoke to my clients and a few experienced coaches. In the end, we all agreed that my niche was helping people discover the work they love. I took up further training and also read several books to improve my expertise.

I set up my business on the side while I was working in my job. When I felt ready, I left the corporate world. Almost everyone was shocked. Some didn’t understand why I was leaving such a “great job”. Others looked at me with envy. A few people thought I was making a big mistake.

3 years have passed since I left my corporate job and I did not regret my decision for one second. That was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Now I can work whenever I want and wherever I want. In addition to my coaching business, I have set up another business on internet. I have other plans too.

I have started this blog in order to share my experience with you, inspire you to discover the work you were born to do and create your dream business. Feel free to leave a comment and ask me questions.

My Story – Part 1

I am sitting on the verandah of my summer house, eating the apricots I just picked from the tree in my garden and working on my laptop as squirrels climb the trees just a few meters away from me.

Three years ago today I was working for a big multinational company in London. My salary was good, I was paid bonus at the end of every year and promoted every couple of years. I was traveling to exotic places on my holidays and staying in luxury resorts . This looked like a dream job from outside and many people were looking at me with envy.

They had no idea how I was feeling inside. I was working in a stressful office environment, trying to meet the deadlines, feeling anxious as to whether our clients would accept our offer, going on exhausting business trips abroad and more or less doing the same thing everyday. I was bored. I lost my motivation and I didn’t want to go to work anymore. I hated 9 to 5 (sometimes 8 to 9) because I wanted to be able to choose my working hours.

I worked in the corporate world for 18 years and I really loved my career in the beginning. When I was studying at the university, my dream was to hold a senior position in a big company and I achieved it much quicker than I thought. But one day I realised it wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I didn’t want to be stuck in an office whole day every day doing the same thing. I needed to discover the work I love and then set up my own business.
